Tomorrow YARN has a ride for all of these dogs to get to Whitehorse… But not one single foster home to send them to…
Two are medical cases, that need veterinary care… But they can’t take that ride – without a place to stay.
Send a message from the YARN page – if you want more details… ... See MoreSee Less
Tony has been at YARN a couple weeks now - and is adapting nicely to living inside... He is a friendly, quiet 3 year old, Neutered Husky who “adores” hugs, scratching, affection etc... He needs a foster that can get him to vet appointments to evaluate and treat previous injuries... He apparently likes chasing cars and has been hit a couple times I believe... He has also had tussles with porcupines, which is how he lost one eye. He has an abscess under that eye, probably containing quills that need to be removed... He has a vet appointment on Friday in Whitehorse.
Tony has always been a free range, outside dog - who had only ever pooped “in bush” before... Day 1 - he fretted - until he found the only weak area in YARN’s “secure fencing” - made a hole and wiggled through... “just" to poop in the bush a few feet away I’m pretty sure... He also ran 12.5 Km’s to his old home even though he has 2 bum legs. Day 2 - he fretted, until finally taking a dump and pee in the hallway... (easily washable surface thank goodness)... Finally Day 3 - he gave it up and pooped on the flat treeless ground in the YARN dog yard... and he’s been fine with that ever since. He also quit fretting and trying to escape... He has great “hold it" power... But when he has to go - he will let you know...!!! He shouldn’t be left inside the house alone if he hasn’t pooped within the past few hours.
Tony had never been collared or leashed - so it scared him at first. I let him drag around a leash all the time. No recall... Anytime I want him to go somewhere, I have to walk to him and pick up the leash, turn around and start walking while repeating “Come Tony”... with authority. He doesn’t avoid you - but just stands or lays there looking at you when called...
Tony had other dogs in his old home, large and small - and is getting on fine with 22 dogs at YARN... I do feed all newer dogs separately... And sometimes he’ll grumble at a dog coming close when it’s his turn for love, or tidbits are being handed out, especially if it’s a new dog... A couple other well adjusted dogs in the foster home can really help learn the system - by example...
Tony also had kids at his old home... He is big - but a pretty gentle boy... And actually kinda lazy, spending most of his day sleeping... Maybe it’s his injuries - or he is just laid back. He sleeps quietly on the bedroom floor through the night...
YARN would prefer a foster who has a securely fenced yard - but would also practice with leash walking...
A foster willing to continue housing Tony inside - to prepare him for his new home... would be preferred. ... See MoreSee Less

“CHURRO” UPDATE – FOSTER NEEDED:
Churro is now chillin’ at YARN in Watson Lake – and has been surrendered… A separate post is seeking transportation to get her to Whitehorse. She is getting around – slower than usual… but surely… She is eating & drinking, so those are good signs. I will update, when more is known.
Churro needs a foster home in Whitehorse, able to get her to the vet as needed, until she is well. Churro may need assistance getting in and out of some vehicles, so a stronger family member would help. She is normally chained… A “securely fenced yard” preferred to keep her safe in the city… She won’t be jumping any fences soon I’d think. Or folks willing to use a 100% leashing/tethering policy anytime she is outside the home. She will need some practice walking on leash as well...
A foster family willing to teach her how to live inside a house – would be a big bonus… and would set her up for successful adoption later on. I can provide tips.
I’m told Churro gets along fine with other dogs… She is not her usual self now… Another well-adjusted dog or two in the home could show her a lot about how to act inside, as she regains her health… I don’t know about any other pets.
I have no info about how she is with kids… But she seems like a friendly girl and is not her strongest now… So maybe just not really young kids, to prevent a knock over accident as she gets healthier. ... See MoreSee Less
Awe I’m glad she will be off to a better home! She’s kind of wary about cats, and with kids she doesn’t realize how much stronger she is then they are. She’s a really good dog. Very happy and energetic. Hopefully she can find an awesome furever home! 💖
Such a pretty girl

HELP FOR “CHURRO” - UPDATE:
Churro’s family have indicated they will keep her... When I have communication from them, I will update this post to advise how best to help...
HELP URGENTLY NEEDED - For “Cassandra”...
(Real name is “Churro”)
This under 2-Year-Old Female was allegedly pregnant, to a point where she had milk. She did not have a litter which would have been expected several weeks ago… and she now seems to be in distress. Unable to walk without stumbling, weak … way out of character. (not my dog but I know her).
YARN received the above message on July 25th - from a concerned animal lover... YARN thought she was being surrendered... (one adult family member said yes - but had to confirm)...
CHURRO MAY NEED...?
1) Transport from Watson Lake to Whitehorse ASAP...
2) Foster home, with securely fenced yard.
3) Donations to help pay Churro’s Vet Bills...
WANTING TO DONATE? YARN will update payment options when more info is received... ... See MoreSee Less
This is my mother’s dog and I don’t think they are wanting to give her away but just to get help for her.
Donated! I hope she gets to a vet ASAP I could also foster but have two senior desexed huskies if she isn't good with other dogs.
I will call and make a donation to Alpine in the morning. I sure hope this dog is ok and gets to Whitehorse quickly.
her name is churro and she is my moms dog I’ll get her to PM you when she can🙂
Have they ruled out false pregnancy it also can be a factor to look into
Thank you Cheryl for all you do for pups.
If good with kids and cats I can take her 🙂
Is there n update on this pup??
Poor little darling I hope she get's the help she need's!
Tubal pregnancy maybe
Tshayla Nothstein ッ know anyone coming to Whitehorse ?
YARN is in need of a place to store whelping boxes, where they would stay dry... Preferably "in the city", as it makes it easier for pick-ups and returns.
These are heavier plywood boxes which are loaned to foster homes, to make it easier for them to raise a litter of puppies. There would be a certain amount of lifting, helping folks to load a whelping box into or out of their truck... And meeting fosters at the storage location, to get or return whelping boxes. The larger boxes have wheels on one end, so the box can be stood up and rolled across any smoother surface.
Right now we “need” this smaller one, for newborn litters, to be picked up and moved somewhere right away, as the foster is moving. Do you have any storage in a garage, dry shed, or building...?
A couple of the whelping boxes may need minor repairs, so I am looking for a carpenter that could undertake that as well. ... See MoreSee Less
How many boxes are there to store?

WHITEHORSE FOSTER NEEDED – 1 Week:
This lovely Medium to Large sized girl is “Inka"... who has a ride to the city either tomorrow or Monday. She has an appointment to be spayed on Wednesday July 21st… She would stay 3 or 4 days after her surgery, then hop a ride back to YARN in Watson Lake… then back to her family she goes... 😀
She is very sweet, polite, quiet, clean, and adores affection... She gets along with all dogs…. I believe she would love all human’s – and is gentle so should be fine with all kids…. Don’t know about cats…
She would need a foster that has a securely fenced yard or willing to use a 100% leashing/tethering policy anytime she is outside of your home, to keep her safe in the city... ... See MoreSee Less

UPDATE: A FOSTER WAS FOUND...
PUPPY FOSTER NEEDED:
Three of these pups from YARN’s “Paw Patrol” litter, will need a foster by this afternoon. (Fri July 16). All 3 in the same foster home would be easiest for me - and the adopters who will visit.
ALL potential adopters are required to submit an adoption application and be approved. You can do this online here: yukonanimalrescue.net/adoption-application/ Applications are considered in the order interest is received for each dog… But YARN will always pick the home that is best for “that dog”. You only have to apply once. If you don’t get the dog you applied for, your application will be filed. If you’ve applied before, send a message through the YARN page, to ask that your application be considered for a specific dog.
Their mom is a Medium Sized, Rust colored Lab Cross - picture included. Dad was a one night stand and mama ain’t talkin’...! ... See MoreSee Less

I STILL NEED A FOSTER FOR THESE PUPS
ARRIVING MID-DAY - "TODAY"...
They have a ride leaving at 8:30 AM... But must have a confirmed foster - before they can leave... GROVER’S RESCUE STORY…
Grover was a feral dog in San Diego, who was rescued and adopted by Mark & Deanna…! His family moved to Alaska in June, and because of Covid rules, they had to get through Canada in a specific number of hours…
So, when Grover got loose at a rest stop a few miles north of Iskut BC, and his feral side kicked in, his family searched for him, but eventually had to leave – to get to the border before their deadline… Plans to return to get him were halted by Covid border rules.
Jean McCrea of Watson Lake was on it…! She went "above and beyond" to be sure this boy got back to his family... including: Posting about his plight, followed up on sightings and even drove down twice to knock on doors in the Iskut region where he went missing… All while keeping his owners Mark & Deanna in the loop. Jean got pictures of Grover’s cat and horse - and dog cousin’s – all waiting for him to come home.
Finally, after a week and a half – 1865 KM’s away - Grover started interacting with the locals in Iskut, BC… beginning with the dogs owned by Doris and Tony… With patience, Grover was coming closer every day, until one day pictures came showing Grover with a hand petting him. The capture was planned – and was a success… It was time for Jean to go get him, beginning with driving 7 hours round trip to pick up rescue equipment at YARN in Watson Lake, (just in case)…
This past Saturday, Jean drove many miles – all for the love of Grover…. Dease Lake to Iskut, BC, where she found Grover quite happily visiting Doris & family…. Then Iskut to Watson Lake, Yukon…. Where Grover spent a couple hours hanging out at YARN, while jean altered her work schedule – so she could drive Grover right to the Yukon Alaska border, with a foster ready in Whitehorse, just in case Mark was not able to meet her…
Jean and Grover met up with Mark at Beaver Creek, Yukon… at almost 5AM – for the handoff. A wonderful success story… and further testament to the dedication of northern animal lovers, to return pets lost in our communities, to their families whenever possible. We finish with a picture of Grover – crashed after his long adventure…
NOTE: Jean McCrea is Grover’s saviour... When asked if they could send her a reward for getting Grover home, Jean is the one who suggested any donations be made towards YARN, (even though YARN did not do much in this case) because she wants to support animal rescue. ... See MoreSee Less
Yay!!! Thank you for everything!!! It was so nice to see grover again safe and sound here in alaska 💜 with one of his cousins
We are so incredibly thankful for the Yukon Animal Rescue Network for their hard work and dedication to reuniting Grover with Mark. Grover has been a part of our family for over 4 years and we are so happy he’s reunited. Again, we really are so thankful for all that you’ve done. That’s me with Grover in the backseat of my car in the 3rd photo - you can truly see how happy he is anywhere he goes. He’s a wanderer at heart but I’m so glad he’s one step closer to home. From San Diego, our family thanks you 🥰🖤
Another great reunion story, happy people , happy dog ❤️ Between this one and the Carcross/Wasilla story it proves there are many great dog loving people out there !!

UPDATE: TRIXIE GOT HER RIDE...
This is Trixie... She has been spayed and now needs a ride from Whitehorse to YARN in Watson Lake...
Trixie does not have a kennel at her foster home to ride in, but is a very well behaved girl - who could just sit on the back seat... Or on the floor - if your vehicle has floor space. YARN does have a kennel storage place in Whitehorse, so the transporter could pick up a kennel for her if preferred - and if you have vehicle with space for a very large kennel. ... See MoreSee Less

ADOPTABLE 5-MONTH-OLD PUP:
This girl is Cali. A 5 month old pup, who looks to be a Cane Corso Cross? She will be a large size dog. We do not have any info about her parents. She has been at a foster home in her community for a couple of weeks. She was limping and quite thin when she arrived but has gained some weight and is not limping anymore.
It seems Callie has suffered some rough treatment, in her short life… She gets fearful, when loud or stern teaching practices are used…. She will need a patient family, in a quiet home, who are experienced with dogs – and use calm, quiet training methods.
She gets along fine with other dogs and would do best in a home with another dog that is well adjusted and calm, to guide her. She has to be reminded to not chase the cats at her foster home… Cali’s foster started her on kennel training… She whines a bit, then settles down. She is now sitting by the door when she wants to go out – but still has the odd accident – so needs more work on the house-training. She does fine on car rides, and on leashed walks.
She would need to be fed separately, as she is quite protective of her food… She scarfs it down and would benefit from a dish that forces her to slow down. Probably best to find a home with no small children, until this issue is addressed. It will take time for her to realize she doesn’t have to worry about her next meal. YARN highly recommends that her new owner take her through some obedience classes, where they can also help work on her food aggression.
Cali is a very smart girl…. Who needs a confident owner, who won’t let her get her own way all the time… Another area where some obedience training will really help.
Cali is still in her community…. But could come to Whitehorse to a foster home if one is found. It could be a family – who is fostering with intent to adopt.
All potential adopters are required to submit an adoption application and be approved. You can do this online here: yukonanimalrescue.net/adoption-application/ If you’ve applied before, you must message me to ask that your application be processed for this dog. Applications are considered in the order interest is received… But YARN will always pick the home that is best for “that dog”. Approved adopters will get the foster’s contact info to visit dogs. ... UPDATE: A FOSTER WAS FOUND...
WHITEHORSE FOSTER NEEDED
This big teddy bear is “Trixie”... The mom of YARN’s Trick Litter. She is being spayed on Friday (July 2). She has a ride to Whitehorse later today (evening arrival in Whitehorse), or Thursday arriving mid-day. She will need a foster home for 3 or 4 days after her spay, before she gets a ride back to her family, who really miss her...
Trixie is normally an outside dog. She has lived inside at YARN for a couple of months now... A couple times when she first arrived, she made a mistake in the house – just until she figured out the dog door. Then she had her own room and dog door out to her own outside area, while she raised her pups – and she never made a mistake in that room….
She is in the middle of shedding her winter coat… A foster who could comb her for 5 minutes a day, to reduce dust bunnies…? Trixie really enjoys being outside, so if the foster had a securely fenced yard with some shade she would choose to spend a lot of her time out there, with the door open. At night at YARN… she slept quietly on the floor in my room, with my other dogs.
If no secure fence…. The foster would have to follow a 100% leashing/tethering policy anytime she is outside of their house. She has experience with being tied up outside. She had some crate training when she was younger.
She is quite a delightful, lovable girl, who got along well with the YARN pack. Her family says she loves kids. Don’t know about cats. ... See MoreSee Less
