Yukon Animal Rescue Network (YARN) is a grassroots organization run by Watson Lake resident Cheryl McGrath, with help from a network of volunteers across the territory.

YARN has rescued hundreds of dogs since its inception in 2013, and encourages spaying and neutering to help stem the flow of unwanted puppies. Many of the rescued animals are transported to foster homes in Whitehorse until their “fur-ever” homes can be found. Because of the large number of unplanned puppies, some are sent south to find homes through rescue organizations there. Most recently, many YARN dogs have found homes by way of the Sunshine Coast SPCA, which at times has a line up of people wanting to adopt rescue dogs.

Adoptions fees help with the many costs of feeding and housing the animals, as well as medical bills (Parvo shots, deworming, spay/neutering, check ups, and medicine/surgery for sick animals).

YARN is simply a group of concerned animal lovers who refused to look the other way as animals in the Yukon suffer. If you love animals and can help out, please send us a message.
